Two Friends and A Bear

Once there lived two friends in a certain village. They were very intimate and promised to help each other in time of danger. One day they were passing through a deep and lonely jungle. There lived many wild animals in the jungle. After walking for a while they saw a bear coming towards them. Both of them got frightened and were in dilemma.

They could not understand what to do. One of the friends knew how to climb up a tree and at once he climbed up a tree. The other did not know how to climb but knew that the bear does not eat any dead animal. So, finding no other way he laid down on the ground just like a dead man. The bear came near and smelt his body. He stopped breathing for some time. Thinking him dead the bear went away. Seeing the bear going away, the first friend got down from the tree and said, “What did the bear whisper into your ear?” The other friend replied, “The bear advised me not to trust such a friend who runs away leaving his friend in danger.”
