Byezid Bostami

Once there lived a small boy named Bayazid in Bostam, Iran. His mother was ill. One night Bayzid was studying by the side of the bed of his ailing mother. All of a sudden, his mother woke up, raised her head. After that, she told her son to give her a glass of water. Bayazid went to the kitchen room to bring water from the pitcher.

But the pitcher was empty. There was not a drop of water in the pitcher. So, He thought to fetch water from a distant fountain. He went alone to the fountain taking the pitcher with him. After a while, he came back home with a pitcher full of water. He saw that his ailing mother was asleep again in the meantime. However, he did not want to disturb his mother. So, Bayzid remained standing beside his mother’s bed. In the morning, Bayazid’s mother woke up from the bed. She became astonished to see her son standing beside her bed with a glass full of water. Then she embraced her son with deep love and prayed to Almighty Allah for her son. In Bayzid’s later life, he became a great saint.



Moral : obedience to mother.
